For the bus station in Almere npk has developed a new traffic plan which provides more room for bus routes.The most important starting points for the design were the transparency at eye level, the visual clarity and the arrangement of bus islands. Light, transparent constructions in stainless steel and glass will visually distinguish the new bus station - that is partly situated under the railway station - from the dominant architecture of the railway station.
Cohesion between the parts of the bus station under the railway and the parts out in the open air, was reached by applying a similar design to the respective parts, the same pavement and a similar lighting level.
Providing accessibility, social security and clear, functional travel information for everybody, including less mobile persons, as well as the blind and visually impaired, is an integral part of the design. This is recognizable in all elements.
