Lifeslide is a good example of product development in order to resolve a problem.
Since ’9/11’ people in general are more aware of the danger of fire and the high amount of smoke that collects in the escape routes of high buildings. Employees feel less safe in high buildings and the highest floors are not very popular in the real-estate and hotel sector.
To enable the quick and safe evacuation of staff as well as reducing the risk to rescue workers, npk is developing the LifeSlide for RVES (Rapid Vertical Egress System).
With a special life vest evacuees are fastened in a ‘chair’ that glides down the rails that are equipped with a magnetic brake system. This way up to 600 people can be put safely on the ground within one hour.
